Congratulations on moving into high school and taking the next exciting step in your life. If you are anything like my boys, you are more than ready for added responsibility and choices that come with being a high school student. St. Mary’s is ready for you to take that next step too! Confirmation means accepting responsibility for your faith and destiny. Childhood is a time when you’re told what to do, and you react positively to reward and negatively to punishment. Adulthood means that you must do what’s right on your own, not for recognition or reward but merely because it’s the right thing to do. The focus is on the Holy Spirit, who confirmed the apostles on Pentecost and gave them the courage to practice their faith. Confirmation is the last of the three sacraments of initiation; it builds on what was begun in baptism and nourished in the Eucharist. It was instituted by Christ in his promise to send the Holy Spirit. I would like to invite you to join our Confirmation class in the fall.
Preparation for Confirmation is a two year program here at St. Mary’s, as it is in the Diocese of Burlington and throughout the country. Most students begin in ninth grade and are confirmed at the end of tenth. Students must attend our monthly Generations of Faith lessons (the second Sunday of each month) and eight additional classes that meet on Sunday evenings throughout the school year. If you would like to join our class, please fill out the enclosed registration form and bring it with you to our first Generations of Faith lesson on September 11th after the 9:00 Mass. Please feel free to call me with any questions or concerns.
